Thermo Scientific Xcalibur VIP (Virtual Instrument Partner) Program empowers third-party equipment manufacturers to write VI (Virtual Instrument) software for their equipment, such that the equipment is available for setup and use in any "appropriate" Xcalibur data system configuration. "Appropriate" configurations are those providing a standard practicable equipment combination, which has been sold, or formally approved by Thermo Scientific.
All VIP's jointly sign an agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific that establishes a clear and professional relationship between the two parties. Amongst other matters, the agreement discusses the issues of testing, support and marketing to ensure that customers can have the highest degree of confidence that all Xcalibur systems perform correctly and reliably, according to published information.
Under the terms of the agreement, VIP's are responsible for the specification and provision of all physical and electrical connections required to interface their equipment to the rest of the system provided by Thermo Scientific.
Once a VIP has produced a VI that satisfies the requirements of the VIP Agreement, Thermo Scientific will acknowledge the VIP equipment by including pertinent information on this web site.
Operational Statement
The independent, modular nature of a VI, enables third-parties, through the mandate of the VIP Agreement, to have total responsibility for the creation, testing, provision, maintenance, support and marketing of their own VI and equipment.
If a hardware or software problem should arise while using a third party's VI, it is the established responsibility of the VIP, under the terms of the agreement, to investigate and correct the fault. The most efficient resolution is to contact the VIP directly for a diagnosis.
If a problem, reported to Thermo Scientific, or your alternative local support organization, is deemed to be caused by the third-party's VIP hardware or software (including the VI interface) the problem will be forwarded to the VIP for resolution.
Thermo Scientific cannot accept responsibility for problems in VIP hardware nor software (including the VI interface), but will, as necessary, co-operate fully with the VIP in their resolution of the problem.
